Department of Science and Technology opens its 2010 NAST (National Academy of Science and Technology)-LELEDFI Award for Outstanding Research in Tropical Medicine. The award with the aims to: - to honor outstanding research contributions in the field of tropical medicine;
- to recognize the role of scientific research in the country's development; and
- to encourage scientific and technological research focusing on tropical diseases as a means of assuaging the growing health crisis.

To help Philippine made technologies, Sen. Manuel Roxas III is pushing for the creation of a law that would make local technologies become commercial ventures. The said law is called Philippine Technology Transfer Act of 2009. It said to encourage the transfer, dissemination and commercialization of technology programs that are sponsored by the government. In addition the said proposal will also establish a Congressional oversight committee composed of 10 representatives from the Senate and House of Representatives, all of whom are already part of science, and information technology committees. |

As Dr. Teodoro Topacio, Jr. conferred to have the National Scientist Award by President Arroyo, the country’s premier institution in the field of animal healthcare and nutrition, Univet Nutrition & Animal Health-care Co. (UNAHCO), cited him for the said award. Dr. Topacio was the first dean of the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Veterinary Medicine, who was conferred as a National Scientist Award by President Arroyo. The said award is in acknowledgment of Topacio's exceptional accomplishment in veterinary medicine for more than 50 years. |

Since Cordilleran art of weaving has fascinated local and foreign tourists who visit the region, particularly during the hot summer months, DOST (Department of Science and Technology) introduced to the local weaving industry replicated some long-forgotten designs. The local woven clothes are an instant hit among tourists, who purchase them as souvenir items. The purchase provides supplementary earnings to local weavers of the Cordilleras. |

At the 8th Philippine Robotics Olympiad (PRO), newest trend in robotics are showcased by student whizzes. The recent PRO shows that robots are really not just for kids. The said Olympiad was held at SM North Edsa which gave birth to a new batch of future scientists and engineers of the country. It gathered the brightest students in the field of science and technology, and challenged them to craft highly innovative robots and robotic systems using Lego robotics. |
