General Antonio Luna

No one can ever forget the existence of General Antonio Luna. He is known to be brilliant, brave soldier and tactician of the second phase of the Revolution and the proverbial hothead.

Over the years, story told about General Antonio Luna's life as a hero but with the researches made by Ambeth Ocampo, historian and chair of the National Historical Institute, General Luna can also be remembered as an excellent scientist.

 
New Breed of Young Scientists

With a hope to raise a new breed of scientists from high schools all over the country, Department of Education (DepEd) has launched Science and Technology Fair 2010.

Winners from the said fair will be selected to represent the country at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) and other international and regional science exhibitions.

 
DOST and IPO to Assist Ilonggo Inventors

To help with technical assistance, funding for their inventions and registration and processing of their patents, Department of Science and Technology-Region 6 (DOST) and Intellectual Property Office (IPO) are urging Ilonggo inventors to register their work since many of them are waiting to be exposed.

 
Filipino Biological Clock

Under the Department of Science and Technology's Balik Scientist Program, Dr. Eduardo Mendoza, a visiting scientist, said that work schedule and human circadian (biological) clock are related with health risks.

Dr. Mendoza is a Senior Research Scientist of the Systems Biology Group of the Physics Department and Center of NanoScience. He has helped University of the Philippines researchers in drafting project proposals for collaboration with Ludwig Maximilian University, which pioneered studies in human circadian clock and shift work in various countries and settings.

 
Biotech Macapuno

Biotech crops produced its first biotech product macapuno. Without the biotech product, the country will not be known as the macapuno capital of the world. The University of the Philippines College of Agriculture (UPCA) in Los Baños, Laguna developed a propagation technique for the product since 1960, before biotechnology was viewed as a process for genetic modification.
