Ely Buendia
Eleandre Basino Buendía, born November 2, 1970 is well-known in the Philippine music scene industry. Ely Buendia is best known as guitarist and lead vocals in the Pinoy rock band, The Eraserheads. As one-fourth of the group Eraserheads, he greatly contributed to the band when it came to songwriting, and to the growth of Pinoy rock in the 90s. He is presently the guitarist and lead vocalist of the band Pupil. Ely had a solo project even prior to parting from Eraserheads. He recorded ten songs in the console of his own home studio, Suite 16 Studios. His album was named Wanted: Bedspacer. And it includes songs Wanted Bedspacer, Monday Mundane, Kakaiba, Santo, Over 18, Tapos Na, Acid Tongue, Oras, Shallow Breathing, and Hotchik. After time of gossips, it has been established that he as known the founding member, major songwriter and lead vocalist of the Eraserheads, he left the band in mid-March 2002 for still unknown reasons. Yet in his following interviews, Ely pointed to business matters as the cause of the band's break-up. After his exit from the band Kris Gorra-Dancel of the band, Fatal Posporos replaced him. The Mongols is an eclectic rock band composed of guitarist J. Astro or Jerome Velasco of Teeth, bassist Yan Yuzon, drummer Bogs Boga Man Jugo (of the indie pop band Daydream Cycle), and on vocals, Ely Buendía, under the name Jesus Dizzy Ventura. After putting out an underground E.P. A Fraction of a Second, the Mongols resolute to have their self-produced album under the major label VIVA Records. It is a thirteen-track album called Buddha's Pest with hit song Bulakbol. In May 2005, the group sooner changed their line-up and altered their name to "Pupil" because they also sounded unusual and much contemporary. Abruptly following J. Astro, their guitarist left the band; the remaining members renamed their band to "Pupil." The members are Ely Buendia (guitars/vocals), Yan Yuzon (guitars/vocals), Dok Sergio (bass/vocals) and Bogs Jugo (drums) with manager Diane Ventura that happens to be Ely’s wife. Buendía chanced upon the band name while reading a medical book. In November 2005 Pupil released an album entitled Beautiful Machines under Sony BMG and label Musiko, with Nasaan Ka? as its first single (Different Worlds, Blow Your House Down, Nasaan Ka?, She Talks To Trees, False Alarm, Gamu-Gamo, Mary, Hypersober, Dulo ng Dila, Beautiful Machines, All This Time, Dianetic, Kalawakan, Lost Guide). Ely Buendía had recently undergone angioplasty after a performing at a gig. Lately Ely reunite with former band mates The Eraserheads with a reunion concert held at The Fort last August 30, 2008. and unfortunately Ely Buendia was stressed and had to run to the hospital and go through with angioplasty for the second time.
