Filipino Biological Clock

Under the Department of Science and Technology's Balik Scientist Program, Dr. Eduardo Mendoza, a visiting scientist, said that work schedule and human circadian (biological) clock are related with health risks.

Dr. Mendoza is a Senior Research Scientist of the Systems Biology Group of the Physics Department and Center of NanoScience. He has helped University of the Philippines researchers in drafting project proposals for collaboration with Ludwig Maximilian University, which pioneered studies in human circadian clock and shift work in various countries and settings.

 
Filipino Scholar Makes It to the Bravo ASEAN

In the annual event, Bravo ASEAN, music and dance contest in Korea, a Filipino scholar makes it to the top as he bagged the gold prize.

Jemuel Forto, Filipino scholar under a Korean government scholarship program, stands out from the 12 teams from 10 ASEAN countries as he sings a Korean ballad entitled "Miss You, Miss You, Miss You".

 
DOST holds invention contest, exhibit

The Department of Science and Techonology in Region 1 is set to conduct a regional invention contest and exhibit on September 27-29, 2011 at the SM City mall in Rosales town.

Regional director Elsa Chan said the three-day affair will feature inventions, utility models, industrial design and creative research works of researchers and of high school and college students from various schools.

 
DOST calls for new researches

The Department of Science and Technology calls the attention of inventors, researchers and innovators to transform their creations into tangible products designed to attend to the needs of the market. Engr. Rowen Gelonga, Department of Science and Technology 6 Director, issued the call during the closing and awarding ceremonies of the 2011 Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits held last October 21, 2011. According to Gelonga, the bigger challenge lies ahead. This refers to the challenge of transforming the creations into actual products in the market. The transformation of ideas into business enterprises is needed to will build the industries from mind to market and from ideas to industries.

Pinoy Artists Amusement Tax

To ask for help to remove the amusement tax imposed on local cultural productions, local entertainers and producers trooped to the House of Representatives.

The Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit said in a statement that they are strongly urge and appeal to our country's lawmakers to amend the amusement tax provision of the Local Government Code to exempt all locally-produced cultural productions including theatrical plays, dance and musical concerts featuring Filipino talents.

 
Local inventions are supported by DoST

According to Mario Montejo, Department of Science and Technology (DoST) Secretary, their agency will be promoting modernization for our country's environment. To implement this, they will establish a joint venture with the government and the private sector. The department is keeping on promoting the technologies invented by Filipino researchers. The National Innovation Agenda named it "Filipinnovation". With this effort, problems are being solved with the strong partnership of the government, academe, and private sectors.

 
Sen. Roxas Proposed a Law for Local Technologies

To help Philippine made technologies, Sen. Manuel Roxas III is pushing for the creation of a law that would make local technologies become commercial ventures.

The said law is called Philippine Technology Transfer Act of 2009. It said to encourage the transfer, dissemination and commercialization of technology programs that are sponsored by the government.

In addition the said proposal will also establish a Congressional oversight committee composed of 10 representatives from the Senate and House of Representatives, all of whom are already part of science, and information technology committees.
