The First Seaweed Laboratory in Central Luzon

BFAR seaweed tissue culture laboratory is located at ABMATC Compound in Barangay Zabali, Baler, Aurora. This was known as the first seaweed laboratory in Central Luzon and one of the six active seaweed laboratories in the country. As a major project of Casiguran Mariculture Park, it covers an area of 321.6 hectares in Casiguran Bay. Aurora province is planning to develop its seaweed culture area from 150 hectares to 1,000 hectares in the next years.

Cordillera Region Inventors

To help the new government resolve the present national and local problems of the society for the economic growth and development, Federation of Investors, Scientist and Researchers of the Cordillera, Inc (FISTCOR Inc.) advise President Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino III, and the other government officials and legislators to see the talents, ingenuity, creativeness and innovative spirits of the Cordillera inventors, scientist, researchers and technologists.

President Villamor Casiquin of FISTCOR Inc. said this in their induction ceremony held at the Baguio Palace Hotel last week.

Casiquin stressed out that their federation strive to act with Filipino inventors nationwide and the national government in all science and technology aspect to eradicate some of national problems like, climate change and global warming.

Biotech Macapuno

Biotech crops produced its first biotech product macapuno. Without the biotech product, the country will not be known as the macapuno capital of the world. The University of the Philippines College of Agriculture (UPCA) in Los Baños, Laguna developed a propagation technique for the product since 1960, before biotechnology was viewed as a process for genetic modification.

Tawa-Tawa: An Antidote for Dengue and Tuberculosis?

According to Neal Harris, Pacquiao's perfumier, the perfume doesn’t smell like a boxer or a boxer socks. The smell could be citrusy, woody with hints of lavender and nutmeg, sagacious for smack in the middle, sweet, rich, and musky.

Pacquiao will do the ribbon cutting in the grand opening of his new All-Manny-All-The-Time Merchandise Store in Hollywood. Pacquiao wanted freshness in all his perfume. He hired two Filipino chemists known as Chemical Sisters (who were also professors) to manufacture the set of cologne chosen by Manny.

With the 2009 Tropical Fruit Wine Competition, Federico Island Wine of Region 6 prevails as the Best Bignay Wine.

The 2009 Tropical Fruit Wine Competition, National Level held recently at SM City, Sta. Rosa, Laguna during the Department of Science and Technology South Luzon Cluster Science and Technology Fair.

Federico's Island Wine received a P10, 000 and the plaque of recognition from DOST, which is awarded by Regional director Alaxander Madrigal.

Outstanding Science and Technology Achievements

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is now calling nominations for outstanding achievements in science and technology.

National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) is the government's highest recognition and advisory body on science and technology.

The categories for deserving scientist are:

Outstanding Young Scientist (OYS) is given to young scientists who have made significant contributions to science and technology developments in the fields of Mathematical, Physical and Chemical Sciences, Engineering Sciences and Technology, Biological Sciences, Social Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, and Health Sciences.

DOST Acknowledged Outstanding Science Scholar Graduates

DOST scholars graduates for school year 2008-2009 has given recognition in its Department of Science and Technology Regional Office.

The awarding ceremony was held recently at the Pearlmont Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City in which a gold medal of academic excellence was each given to the awardees.

The awardees are among the 121 DOST scholars who graduated last March 2009. Of the list, eight graduated magna cum laude, 36 are cum laude, and three are with honors.
