Blancaflor, the growing number of patents on Filipino inventions certifies assurance against patent infringer and removes our country from the watch list of US. This will be the mission of their agency in the next five year. The office had confiscated about P5.6 billion worth of fake goods last year, and they expect to snitch at least the same amount this year. |

Department of Science and Technology opens its 2010 NAST (National Academy of Science and Technology)-LELEDFI Award for Outstanding Research in Tropical Medicine. The award with the aims to: - to honor outstanding research contributions in the field of tropical medicine;
- to recognize the role of scientific research in the country's development; and
- to encourage scientific and technological research focusing on tropical diseases as a means of assuaging the growing health crisis.

Under the Department of Science and Technology's Balik Scientist Program, Dr. Eduardo Mendoza, a visiting scientist, said that work schedule and human circadian (biological) clock are related with health risks. Dr. Mendoza is a Senior Research Scientist of the Systems Biology Group of the Physics Department and Center of NanoScience. He has helped University of the Philippines researchers in drafting project proposals for collaboration with Ludwig Maximilian University, which pioneered studies in human circadian clock and shift work in various countries and settings. |

Edgardo Angara is eyeing for more laws to propel the country's human resources. The senator is the chair of the Congressional Commission on Science, Technology and Engineering (COMSTE). According to him, the legislation has played an important role in initiating S&T scholarship programs. The Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994 for instance, grant financial assistance to poor but talented students pursuing careers in S&T. This policy directs its actions toward encouraging and promoting research and development strategies to advance the quality of education in areas of science and innovation, especially for students who have high science aptitude. |
