Pinoy Software Developer Wins the First-Ever Google Map Maker

In first-ever Google Map Maker Global Competition, Pinoy software developer wins the $50,000 worth of donation funds over hundreds of contestants.

Wayne Dell Manuel, winner of the first-ever Google Map Maker Global Competition, is a 24-year-old developer at the National Telehealth Center of the University of the Philippines.

 
Ethanol: The Gift from Seaweeds

A $5-million worth of Ethanol farm will be developed soon as part of government plans. It will be situated in a 100 hectare site in Aurora.

The project will use Korean technology of extracting ethanol from seaweeds.

 
Pinoy Scientist Undertakes Anti-Cancer Research

Lauren Colis, a US-based Filipino scientist and  a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Radiation Oncology and Molecular Radiation Sciences of the John Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. She had given honor and pride to Filipinos based in Milan when she participated in the 3rd Genomic Instability Workshop. She is a good role model and inspiration to many children of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

 
Mindanao Schools First Recipients of IT Packages

With the DOST-SEI’s (department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute), MOVE UPS (Mindanao Opportunity for Vitalized Education and Upgrading Science), sixty Mindanao public schools became the first recipient of a three-year project aimed at improving the teaching and learning environment in Mindanao.

The schools will get a laptop computer, multimedia projector, software packages and other learning equipment.

 
TAPI and DOST facilitate in Filipinos' inventions

House Bill 2038 seeks to revive the Philippine Inventors Commission (PIC) to be able to boost the competitiveness of Filipino inventors. PIC was created in 1964 by virtue of Republic Act (RA) 3850. Its aim is to promote research and development to provide technical, financial, legal, and marketing assistance to Filipino inventors. In 1987, it was abolished by Executive Order 128 as part of the government reorganization. 

 
Robots for All Ages

At the 8th Philippine Robotics Olympiad (PRO), newest trend in robotics are showcased by student whizzes. The recent PRO shows that robots are really not just for kids.

The said Olympiad was held at SM North Edsa which gave birth to a new batch of future scientists and engineers of the country. It gathered the brightest students in the field of science and technology, and challenged them to craft highly innovative robots and robotic systems using Lego robotics.

As of mother's day celebration and as a tribute to the legendary mom of Tarlac, a 22-by-40-foot mosaic portrait of Cory Aquino, printed on a tarpaulin, was unveiled at the atrium of SM City Tarlac.
