55th Death Anniversary of President Ramon Magsaysay

The 55th Death Anniversary of former President Ramon F. Magsaysay was commemorated last March 17. It happened in a plane crash at Mt. Manunggal, Cebu City in 1957. Magsaysay was called "The Guy" during his time. He is a simple and humble leader of the country who is well-loved by his countrymen. He was born on August 31, 1907 at Iba, Zambales, the son of Exequiel Magsaysay, a blacksmith, and Perfecta del Fierro, a school teacher.

Church bells returned to National Museum

Two church bells considered as a Philippine-American war artifact were turned over today to the National Museum.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario turned over to Director Jeremy Burns of the National Muesum the two church bells reportedly taken from Meycauyan Church in Bulacan in 1899.

According to DFA, the bells were handed by Sisters of Mercy Midwest Community USA president Sister Judith Frikker to Philippine Consul General to Chicago Leo M. Herrera-Lim. The wooden part of the bells contains the message "Taken from the Church at MEYCAUAYAN, Luzon Islands after bombardment by Utah Battery March 29, 1899. By P.O. Thomas, Co. A Batallion of Engineers."  The bells’ height is 10 inches and its width is 3.5 inches.  It is quite heavy in 5 lbs.

The Invention of Ben Cruz

Benjamin Cruz is a well-known inventor from Bulacan. Last January 29, he sent a letter which indicates proposals regarding his inventions to the Presidential Action Center. One of his recent inventions is a kind of pill called Golden Heart. The pill will help a person reduce his cholesterol level and to prevent vascular obstruction, a disease that kills many people worldwide. It is also tested to prevent blocks in the arteries of the heart, gall stones, kidney stones, cerebral stroke, by-pass surgery, dialysis, erectile dysfunction and acne.

NCRP cited Pinoy Scientists

During the 79th General Membership Assembly, the National Research Council of the Philippines (NCRP) recognized 9 Filipino scientists with their national and international science contributions in the country. The following Pinoy scientists were cited in the event:

Tawa-Tawa: An Antidote for Dengue and Tuberculosis?

The new additive to vehicle fuel. This will cut down the fuel consumption and will prevent smoke belching which will extend the engine's life. This became possible thru the effort of Filipino inventor, Ramon Posadas. His invention is "The Enkindle". Enkindle will save and will repair the power like it had been overhauled.

Filipino Discovers Treatment System for Bananas

Philippines is the 3rd largest banana exporting country in the world. About P35 billion was earned by banana industry and almost P400 million local taxes was contributed to the country.

Moko and Panama Diseases, these are fungous and contagious infections that could spread in banana plantations and also eventually damage the plants. Moko is an infectious disease which ripens the fruits too early. It also kills the infected plants in few weeks. Panama disease is a Fusarium oxyforumcubense fungus which destroyed the Malaysian banana 3 years ago.
