Lea Salonga

A Tony Award-winning Filipino singer and performer, she is Lea Salonga-Chien. Maria Lea Carmen Imutan Salonga in real life was born on February 22, 1971 in Manila. She is best famous for her representation of Kim in the prestigious musical Miss Saigon.

Noli Me Tangere

The book is a social commentary narrating the cruelty of the Spanish friars to the Filipinos. The story is woven around the romance of Crisostomo Ibarra and Maria Clara but the deeper and more subtle theme revolves around the abuses of Spanish priests and the colonial government. Crisostomo Ibarra is the son of Don Rafael Ibarra, and had studied in Europe. Maria Clara is a girl blessed with beauty, grace and charm, and is the daughter of a Spanish friar (priest), Padre Damaso, and a Filipina, Doña Pia Alba, who is married to Santiago de los Santos, popularly known as Capitan Tiago.

The Peninsula Manila

The Peninsula Manila (or sometimes called, The Manila Peninsula), is one of the elite and well-known hotels in the Philippines. It is located on the corners of Ayala and Makati Avenues, in the heart of Metro Manila's business district. It is the first Peninsula hotel outside Hong Kong.

Monkey-Eating Eagle

The Monkey-Eating Eagle is now known as the National Bird of the Philippines and this has helped increase awareness of the bird and its plight. Its numbers have slowly dwindled over the decades with only an estimated 500 pairs left. The Philippine Eagle may soon no longer be found in the wild, unless direct intervention is taken. The Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) is one such organization dedicated to the protection and conservation of the Philippine Eagle and its forest habitat. In fact, PEF has been successfully breeding Philippine Eagles in captivity for over a decade now and has also conducted the first experimental release of a captive-bred eagle to the wild. Ongoing research on behavior, ecology and population dynamics is also underway.

Prescillano M. Zamora

Dr. Zamora is recognized for his works to plant anatomy-morphology, pteridophyte biology, and the preservation of environment and natural resources policy study. His work on the xylem elements of vascular plants is the basis for the formulation of the two-phase wall deposition concept now accepted universally. His researches on the taxonomy of Philippine ferns led to the detection for additional species of the group.

Gregorio F. Zaide

Legendary historian to Philippine history, Dr. Zaide has made noteworthy contributions. A diligent scholar, he authored 67 books, some were use as textbooks in history for secondary and colleges in the country. He has also written more than 500 articles in history printed in local and foreign journals.

Nick Joaquin

Nicomedes "Onching" M. Joaquin was born on May 4, 1917 in Paco, Manila. His mother was a public school teacher and a colonel father in the Philippine Revolution of 1896.

Nick Joaquin started to write short stories, poems, and essays in 1934. Consider as a brilliant kid, he did not get to finish high school, he discovered that he could study more by reading books on his own, and his father's library had countless of the books he mind to read. He wrote so variedly and so well about so many phase of the Filipino throughout his entire life span.

Ruben Villareal

Ruben Villareal was a renowned horticulturist; his detection on the non-Mendelian or cytoplasmic inheritance of the southern leaf blight disease (Helminthosporium maydis) of corn finished the incorporation of "T" cytoplasm in the U.S. and in the local inbred lines.
