As DOST XI (Department of Science and Technology) observes the need to increase the awareness of teachers and school kids on the global environmental issue, thirty two teachers from national high schools in the region underwent a three day seminar-workshop on climate change In partnership with the University of the Philippines Mindanao and the Philippine Association of Japanese Ministry of Education Scholars (PHILAJAMES) Mindanao Chapter, DOST conducts this kind of project after the clear evidences of climate change showed after the typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng. Participants were briefed on the concepts and local context of climate change. According to DOST XI Regional Director, Dr. Anthony C. Sales, this kind of Seminar-Workshop hopes to empower the teachers for them to perform their part in the efforts to speak to the effects of Climate Change. DOST is really true in their commitment that they are going to work constructively for a global agreement to mitigate Climate Change, and is leading the way by taking ambitious actions on its own.
