To campaign for and acquire more knowledge about biotechnology, DOST (Department of Science and Technology) pushed young Filipino scientists to attend the Novartis Biotechnology Leadership Camp (BioCamp), which is slated on July 12 at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Conference Center in Makati City.

Eric van Oppens, president and chief executive officer of Novartis Healthcare Philippines, said that their company wants to improve the quality of Philippine healthcare through Biotechnology since it can give natural solutions to many of the world's crises.

Novartis is a multinational pharmaceutical company. It has been conducting leadership camps since 2004, bringing the BioCamp to the biotechnology sector to university graduates who are aspiring to become scientists.

The company is conducting BioCamp annually to help develop the healthcare system on several fronts. One of these fronts is biotech research, which has been pivotal in advances made in the life sciences and medicine.

BioCamp will bring out biotech experts who will share their knowledge to the participants who will be chosen for their academic excellence, demonstrated potential and professional focus.

The two best participants will have a chance to attend the global Novartis BioCamp in Basel, Switzerland, slated on August 30 to September 2.

With this kind of program of private sector like, Novartis, this could be of great help to breed Filipino scientists and researchers. [via mb.com.ph]
