To ask for help to remove the amusement tax imposed on local cultural productions, local entertainers and producers trooped to the House of Representatives.

The Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit said in a statement that they are strongly urge and appeal to our country's lawmakers to amend the amusement tax provision of the Local Government Code to exempt all locally-produced cultural productions including theatrical plays, dance and musical concerts featuring Filipino talents.

According to Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano, producer and talent manager, taxes imposed by local government runs from 10%-30%, which causes them to earn a little or sometimes completely wipes out what they expected to earn.

Singers Ogie Alcasid, Dingdong Avanzado, composer Jim Paredes, Girlie Rodis and other OPM members were with Pangilinan-Valenciano in the said battle.

With this, Representative Reynaldo Umali of Oriental Mindoro, who also the vice chairman of the ways and means committee, promised to push for the appeal of the group.

The group is not asking to remove amusement tax just to earn more; they are also doing this to save the music industry. [via showbizandstyle.inquirer.net]
