According to Mario Montejo, Department of Science and Technology (DoST) Secretary, their agency will be promoting modernization for our country's environment. To implement this, they will establish a joint venture with the government and the private sector. The department is keeping on promoting the technologies invented by Filipino researchers. The National Innovation Agenda named it "Filipinnovation". With this effort, problems are being solved with the strong partnership of the government, academe, and private sectors.

DoST has many plans. Currently, the locally manufactured mass transit system is the priority of the department. They are starting its development. The planned prototype of the railway path will be launched at the University of the Philippines Diliman. The groundbreaking ceremony will happen in November 2010. After that, they are planning to finish it in 6 months. The mass transport system is unique because it will be locally manufactured and its cost is lesser than other mass transport systems made in other countries.

In addition, DoST is planning of using wind power by means of windmills. They are still searching for the most cost-effective design different from the one located in Ilocos. The cost of production must be minimized to at least 50 percent compared to the present. DOST is studying other innovations presented to them like flood monitoring and flood control devices. They are currently advancing the existing sensors along the Marikina River that will monitor and control flood. [via mb.com.ph]
