Filipino Students join Water Rocket Competition

Two students from Tacloban City will be the country's representative in an international water rocket competition. The 2 young men will be competing with 20 other countries in the Asia Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF) Water Rocket Competition in Australia this November. They were Julius Dacuycoy and Edward Louie Chua of Asia Development Foundational College (ADFC).They became the Philippine representatives when they won in the national contest. Last February, ADFC was also the Philippine representative to the last APRSAF Water Rocket Competition held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Dr. Ester Ogena, director of the Department of Science and Technology - Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), said that competitions like these are great spots for the students to apply their distinction and skills.

The DOST-SEI always keep on accomplishing National Water Rocket Launching Competition as part of the World Space Week Celebration yearly. This helps Filipinos to learn more about space science.

This year, students from 24 schools joined the national contest happened at the Marikina Riverbanks center and ADFC was the only school which landed their rocket within the range of 2.65 meters.

According to Ogena, their school is committed in the importance of space science. They believe that space science plays a main part in preparing the people in calamities and disasters that may happen. [via abs-cbnnews.com]
