In the recently concluded, National Invention Competition '10, young inventors are pushed even more towards excellence to be globally competitive.

The said competition, which was participated by at least 67 inventors, was divided into five categories: Tuklas (Outstanding Invention; Outstanding Utility Model), Outstanding Industrial Design, Outstanding Creative Research and SIBOL (Outstanding Student Creative Research).

Young participants are prioritized in the contest since; they will be the future leaders of the nation.

But according to Dr. Nuna A. Almanzor, director of the Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI) of the Department of Science and Technology, who is one of the seven panel judges, all the participants from the different categories could still have done better with their research pieces as contestants in the contest.

Judges appreciate the performance of all the participants but all of them agree that there is something lacking. They believe that in proper guidance and support of the school itself, participants could have done better.

Another judge who is Carmen Peralta, director of Information, Documentation and Technology Transfer Bureau of the Intellectual Property Office also agree with Almanzor, saying it is the responsibility of the teachers to give their students appropriate supervision, and help them focus on their project.

These observations from the experts would serve as a great challenge not only to all the young scientists but as well as to all the teachers to improve their teaching to produce globally competitive scientists. [via mb.com.ph]
