Now, Ely led Oktaves, the newest Filipino rock super group. The band was formally formed almost a year ago when they first performed onstage as "Oktaves" in the inaugural Esquire (magazine) ball.

Last month, the group formally signed a recording contract with MCA Music Inc.'s office in Ortigas Business District in Pasig City. Oktaves' members are Chris Padilla (currently of Hilera) also on vocals and guitars, Nitoy Adriano (long-time axeman of The Jerks) on lead guitar, Ivan Garcia on bass (Hilera) and Bobby Padilla on drums (Hilera). Among the MCA Music executives who headed the contract signing are MCA president, Ricky R. Ilacad, Wilson Cruz (sales and marketing director), Kiko Guevarra (A & R manager), Mark Bonifacio (OPM label manager), Pupil’s manager Day Cabuhat and Oktaves manager Ish Caparas.

According to MCA, Oktaves is described "a super band, they are plain and simple." Ely and Nitoy  are current and past members of original alternative and blues band of the Philippines, they are considered icons in the local music scene.  While Chris Padilla, Bobby Padilla and Ivan Garcia came from Hilera band. They maybe new players but they have already made an impact when they won the Nescafe sound school competition in 2005 and nominated and won different rock awards.
