Experts announced that a fatal fungus that has killed hundreds of different kinds of frogs in the US is now harming five different frog species in Asia, specifically in the Philippines. US and Filipino scientists found out that Philippines is the third country in Asia to be affected by the chytrid fungus, which targets the skin of frogs and distresses the arrangement of tadpoles' body parts. Among the species that were infected are Luzon striped frog, Luzon stream frog, Luzon fanged frog and Puddle frog. Rafe Brown of the University of Kansas Biodiversity Institute is now working on a study team to save those species of amphibians from these serious threats. [via] |
